Your dog does not know what a first look is. They do know their favourite person has appeared in unusual clothes and everybody seems very excited. That is a promising beginning for a photograph, provided the plan leaves room for a dog to behave like a dog.
Give one person the dog job
Choose a trusted person who can handle the lead, carry the familiar essentials and take your dog somewhere comfortable when the photographs are finished. Ideally, that person is not also coordinating the ceremony or standing in every family picture. Clear responsibility removes a surprising amount of confusion.
Confirm the venue's pet rules and choose a nearby, manageable location. Think about surface temperature, noise and the length of the visit. If you have concerns about your pet's ability to cope, discuss them with your veterinarian or qualified behaviour professional before the wedding rather than improvising on the day.
Plan an interaction, not a perfect expression
Walking together, a familiar greeting or a comfortable cuddle gives the photographer something natural to work with. A short attempt at everyone looking toward the camera can be followed by pictures of what happens between those attempts. The couple laughing at a determined sniff may become the favourite frame.
The other portraits here illustrate relaxed connection; they are not examples of a dog being present. The point is to preserve the same ease when your pet joins you. Avoid balancing an animal on furniture or forcing contact for a composition. If an accessory is unfamiliar or uncomfortable, the photograph can do without it.
Have a graceful finishing point
Agree that you will stop if the dog is uncomfortable or simply uninterested. Arrange a comfortable place for them to go afterwards, with their handler. The dog does not need to remain through speeches and dancing to have been part of your wedding story.
Let the photographer know in advance which interaction matters most. A portrait with the three of you may be enough. A full sequence of your dog greeting guests might suit a different celebration. Specific expectations are helpful; a demand for a perfectly behaved animal is not. The best plan makes a good photograph possible while keeping the visit enjoyable for everyone involved.
